Empowering special needs children & adults— & the leaders who stand beside them—to stop bullying where it starts.
Mental Health Services of North Carolina (MHSNC) stands as a pioneering organization dedicated to confronting one of society’s most misunderstood epidemics: bullying. With special needs individuals facing bullying at three times the rate of their peers, our mission has never been more crucial.
MHSNC creates bully-proof communities by strengthening the self-worth of special needs participants and training athletes and peers to be advocates. Together, we’re building a culture where compassion wins.
The impact of bullying creates ripples that extend far beyond the immediate moment of confrontation and the statistics paint a stark picture of this crisis. Children who bully by age eight are 400% more likely to be involved in the criminal justice system by thirty. Daily, we face 150 suicide attempts, with fifteen tragic successes. The emergence of “bullycide” among children as young as six underscores the severity of this issue. Each day, 166,000 students miss school due to bullying, and 75% of all school shooters are victims of bullying.
